Product Description

Factory Supply Raw Material CAS 128-44-9 / 6155-57-3 Saccharin Sodium
Product name: Sodium Saccharin
Chemical formula: C7H4NO3SNa.2H2O
CAS: 6155-57-3
Product performance:
Sodium saccharin and aspartame are two common artificial sweeteners. Although they are both used to replace sugar to provide sweetness, they have significant differences in chemical composition, sweetness, usage scenarios, taste, and health effects.

Sodium saccharin is an artificial sweetener with a chemical name of sodium o-sulfonylbenzoylimide, which is 300-500 times sweeter than sucrose. Its main feature is its strong sweetness, but it may have a slight metallic or bitter taste when used in high concentrations. The biggest advantage of sodium saccharin is that it contains almost no calories, so it is widely used in low-calorie or sugar-free foods and beverages. In addition, it is stable in high temperature and acidic environments, making it suitable for baking and long-term storage products.

Aspartame is a sweetener synthesized from two amino acids (aspartic acid and phenylalanine) with a sweetness 180-200 times that of sucrose. Aspartame has a sweetness close to sucrose, a natural taste and no bitterness or metallic taste, so it is widely used in products that need to taste closer to natural sugar. Although aspartame contains a small amount of calories, it usually does not significantly affect the caloric contribution of the product due to its extremely low usage. It is suitable for products such as soft drinks, dairy products, candy and chewing gum, but it is unstable to high temperature and acidic environment, so it is not suitable for baked goods.

From a health perspective, sodium saccharin was controversial because of the risk of bladder cancer found in early animal experiments, but subsequent studies have shown that it is safe in the prescribed usage and is recognized by multiple authoritative organizations such as FDA and WHO. Aspartame is widely regarded as safe, but because it contains phenylalanine, patients with phenylketonuria (PKU) need to avoid using foods containing aspartame.

In general, sodium saccharin is suitable for products with high sweetness, low cost and long storage time, especially for foods and beverages processed at high temperature; while aspartame is often used in products that do not require high temperature processing, such as beverages, dairy products and candy, because of its sweetness close to natural sugar and good taste. Which sweetener to choose depends on the type of product, taste requirements and consumer health needs.
